Visit with Curious George: 6.6.10

In early June there was a Curious George exhibit at our local children's museum.  Of course we had to go, since Kayley is George's #1 fan!!!

Playing with the tube pipes like the play at BlueMan Group. (DH and I had just gone to see them two nights prior for our 5th year wedding anniversary.)

Then we headed into the George exhibit hall where there were a ton of different things to play with that were all about science and math concepts.

Mommy Guilt

It's been a while since I posted about any of Sunshine's adventures and I am feeling lots of mommy guilt surrounding that.  I have been selfishly focusing on me and my health.  Check out my journey here: http://projectgetthin.blogspot.com/

Letter Sounds

Today Sunshine and I worked on letter identification and sounds.  We first put together this Melissa and Doug alphabet puzzle:
As we put the pieces back in we talked about the name of each letter, the picture underneath, and the sound the letter makes.  After we completed the puzzle, we sang the song from the Leap Frog Letter Factory DVD. (Here is a clip from that video if you are not familiar with it; the letter song is sung towards the end of the clip! We LOVE this video!!!)

Sunshine can identify W, K, B, O consistently, and a few others not all the time. We will get there, slowly but surely.

Lizards and Birds and Snakes! OH MY!

Our local library has had some great programs to offer this summer!  They have offered free movies, story times, craft times, and free shows!! We went to one last week that was put on by Wildlife Encounters Zoo. The girl who presented the show was very knowledgeable of the animals she was showcasing.  We learned about many animals, including Alligator Snapping Turtle, Kookaburra, Green Winged Macaw,  Red Coatimundi, Argus Monitor.....

and the highlight of the show was a 320 lb Albino Burmese Python named Chester! After the presentation, the children were allowed to go up and pet him!!!

Kids in the Kitchen: Chocolate Pancakes

Tonight we made Chocolate Pancakes from The Sneaky Chef.
(Her recipe called for oat bran, but we used wheat germ instead!)

Sunshine loved measuring the ingredients and adding them together.

Her favorite part was getting to mix them all together!!!!

Cooking up the first one!!!

She took her first bite and said, "These are AWESOME!!!" She then ate THREE of them! WOAH!!!
Not sure where she put it all, but she gobbled them down!

This is certainly a recipe we will keep and make again! So delicious! They taste decedent, but are so healthy with blueberry puree and wheat germ!!!
